Our Toolkit is a summary of the research on interventions – things we can do to try and prevent violence from happening. It’s based on the best available evidence in our Evidence and Gap Map (a database of over 2,000 studies).

It doesn’t summarise the research on what causes violence or young people’s experience of violence.

It covers 13 approaches to preventing youth crime and violence, giving you information on:

1. The average impact of the approach and the quality of evidence behind it
2. How to implement the approach and make it as effective as possible
3. Where you can find existing high-quality programmes
4. How much it’s likely to cost
5. Where we need more research
6. Where to find other evidence-informed resources.

The Toolkit is based on research from around the world but highlights UK studies where available and discusses how they fit with the international picture. We’re currently investing in rapidly improving the evidence base in England and Wales.

We’ll update the Toolkit regularly to reflect changes in the evidence base and what you tell us you need. We’ll include new findings from high-quality research including YEF-funded projects, when they become available.
