About the project

Attendance Mentors is delivered by Etio and funded by the Department for Education. It is a 12-week targeted intervention for pupils in Years 7–11 of mainstream secondary schools in England identified as persistently or severely absent. Pupils are paired with a trained mentor for up to 12 one-to-one sessions, with additional engagement offered to parents/carers. Delivered in four flexible phases—building trust, planning, implementing support, and preparing for reintegration—the programme addresses attendance barriers while supporting wellbeing, behaviour, and academic engagement. Attendance Mentors will be delivered and evaluated across multiple sites to assess its impact on improving school attendance and wider outcomes.
