Strengthening Practice: Supporting Children & Young People at Risk of Extra-Familial Harm

The Youth Endowment Fund and The Global Centre for Contextual Safeguarding at Durham University is hosting a one-day conference on strengthening practice for children and young people at risk of extra-familial harm.

The conference is aimed at Directors of Children’s Services and their senior leaders, leaders in the charity & community sector, and wider partners.

Over the day, we will

  • Hear from Department for Education on support for children affected by extra familial harm in the context of children’s social care policy reform.
  • Learn from latest research and promising practice – including findings from the Global Centre’s work on ROTH pathways, Prioritising Protection, and the role of youth work in safeguarding responses to EFH, and from the YEF evaluation on multi-agency responses to extra familial harm.
  • Hear from affected parents and professionals on the human experience of safeguarding systems, and from a care experienced led research project on care experienced children’s experience of violence.
  • Hear from experts in race equity about safeguarding systems for Black and other minority ethnic children affected by EFH.
  • Have opportunity for discussion and reflection with sector leaders and colleagues.
