The Impact of Trauma-Informed Practice on Youth Violence

Colleagues from across youth justice and the wider partnership are invited to join a Virtual Learning Café run by the Youth Endowment Fund and Centre for Justice Innovation. This is part of our Evidence in Practice series, giving you opportunity to hear from policy experts and practitioners on relevant research and practice.

Violence has devastating impacts on children and families. The link between childhood trauma and involvement in violence is illustrated in the Secondary Data Analysis on Adverse and positive childhood experiences, and their association with children’s involvement in violence (2025).

The Youth Endowment Fund’s (YEF’s) mission is to prevent children and young people from becoming involved in violence. YEF is currently evaluating several models of trauma informed practice to see whether these approaches have an impact on crime and violence.

Bridgend Youth Justice Service will lead this session to discuss their current evaluation with YEF on their Relationship Building Together project; this has seen practitioners working across youth justice, edge of care, youth development and early help services have training in a psychology-led approach underpinned by the Trauma Recovery Model.

Bridgend YJS will reflect on:

  • Transforming systems through relationships, not reactions
  • A tiered framework for practice
  • The importance of partnership buy-in
  • The role of the project lead and next steps

Speakers:

  • Debbie Jones – Rheolwr Prosiect /Project Manager
  • Christa Bonham-Griffiths – Rheolwr Gwasanaeth Cyfiawnder Ieuenctid / Youth Justice Service Manager

The event will run online using MS Teams on Thursday 20th November 2025, 10:00-11:30.
